Syrian citizens declared undesirable persons
19 July 2017

On Thursday, July 13th, 2017, the Romanian Intelligence Service submitted to the Bucharest Court of Appeals the proposal to declare undesirable for a period of ten years two Syrian citizens involved in activities that could generate potential terrorist risks.

The Bucharest Court of Appeal declared the two Syrian citizens undesirable for a period of 8 years, based on decision no. 5318/2/2017 of July 19th, 2017.

The operation performed by SRI has revealed the fact that the two suspects, A.H. and A.H., have been involved in Romania in systematic actions of aggressively promoting the Jihadist ideology, specific to terrorist groups which are active on the Syrian front. Also, they facilitated illegal access to our country for certain co-nationals, some of which were already known as having ties to terrorism. During the monitored period, the two suspects took several trips to Syria, and on these occasions they established and developed close relations with members of Jihadist organizations, Daesh included.

The evaluation of the intelligence collected by SRI led to the conclusion that there were risks associated to terrorism, and the decision was made to remove the two suspects from Romania.

In this case, the Service has cooperated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs (the General Inspectorate for Immigration), and with the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Bucharest Court of Appeal.
